It's Been Quite The Week

Image
This week has been a rough one. It started off with my favorite pair of rugby shorts ripping beyond the point of no return. They weren't just my favorite rugby shorts but my favorite shorts in general. They were perfect in every way possible, the fit, the flexibility, the massive pockets, everything a girl could want in her shorts. This was also my very first pair of rugby shorts from my freshmen year of highchool, they have gotten me through more action then I ever could have asked for. I have already been in contact with the company that made them and sadly they no longer use the same material supplier and said alot has changed in the industry, so my hopes aren't too high in finding them again. I have obviously been in all different types of rugby shorts through the years but none have met the match. I will be checking every thrift store I see here in New Zealand in search for any that might come close! We had a great turn out at Monday practice, and then Wednesday was the op...

Elephant Rocks

Image
Saturday we took a beautiful drive out to Elephant Rocks. We had been told this location was used in the Lord of the Rings filming but after further investigation turns out it was just used in The Chronicles of Narnia, which is still pretty cool! I also found a list of Lord of the Rings filming locations so those have been added to my list of places to visit! (For those who don't know, New Zeland has been one of my favorite countries and one I always knew I had to visit because of Lord of the Rings) The Elephant Rocks were awesome, I didn't quite see the Elephant shapes as much as I thought I would but they were neat to climb on and walk around in. We also sat and enjoyed the gorgeous view, soaking up enough sun we each got a little sun burnt.  Rugby practices have been going well! We are starting to get more players out to practice consistently and starting to work on defensive strategies. So far I know we have a pre season game on March 15 and then our season will start the f...

Bushy Beach

Image
It's been a bit more cloudy here the last handful of days but we still ventured out to the beach! Bushy Beach asks that you only visit the beach between 9am and 3pm due to wildlife activity. The penguins and seals will come up to sleep or what ever else they do and typically won't come up if there is human activity. We made it there just a bit later not knowing there was a time frame but still went down for a quick peek. It was certainly a steep trail down but very beautiful! We snagged a couple pictures and also got to see one seal sleeping and another farther down just hopping around. Also saw one of the saddest looking palm trees I've ever seen! We will certainly be back to visit!

The Dairy Farm

Image
Well we are very happy with the milking job we got while we are here! This has been Ian's first time milking and he enjoys it too! He said it's messy but fun! The milking shifts at this barn are 5am to 7am and 2:30pm to 4:30pm. Most of the shifts I will be doing are in the evening but I did sign up for a couple morning shifts as well. We milked thursday afternoon with the owner, and then Ian and I were up bright and early for the friday morning shift with one of their other employees. I think Friday morning he said we milked about 420 cows! The young couple that owns this dairy farm also has a second dairy farm and a bailing business as well. Some dairy farms here milk year around, but at this barn they dry up in May. I am a huge fan of this barn because it almost isn't really a barn! We aren't in a milking parlor in a barn, of course we are under a roof, but three of the four sides are open to the outside. The cows all have collars, so when it is time to milk you can p...
