Pre Season Game

We had our pre season game March 15, winning both games and I scored once in each game. It was a little men and women's rugby festival with shorter games. We played two 40 minute games against the same team with a break in between which was a nice way to remind us all how much energy it takes for half a game let alone a whole 80 minutes. It was a gorgeous day but it was one of the hottest days I've experienced since being here and there were no clouds to help! This game was even more important being the first time the Faye Allan Memorial Trophy was given out, and a tradition that will follow for quite a long time. Faye Allan was the woman who started the Waitaki Wāhine team and helped make a huge impact on womens rugby in this area. Her son and other remaining family were there watching the games and presented us the trophy at the end. Coach has me starting at fullback (#15) which is a rather new position for me, and is a position I always found kind of scary. It's essentially like goalie, although I can do way more offensively, when it comes to defense I'm kind of the last line of defense, along with maybe a few other fast people that could attempt to help on a break away. I think I've been settling in well, I was also pretty content with how I played. My second score was also one of the coolest things I've ever done on the field and haven't done since highschool! The ball was loose on the ground, I scooped it up, kicked it, chased and caught it and scored! I'm still waiting for the film from the games and can hopefully post it here soon! Walked away slowly with a little bit of sunburn and some solid bruises!
